Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Great Point Light is the northernmost point of Nantucket Island. It is part of the Nantucket National Wildlife Refuge. The lighthouse here was first built in 1784 as a wooden tower, but got destroyed by a fire in 1816. In 1986, it was rebuilt as a stone tower standing at 22 m (71 ft). This piece of land will become its own island as stronger storms erode the beaches and sea level rise.
